Darren Aronofsky's Protozoa Pictures Sets Two Overall First Look Deals in Television and Film
NEW YORK (January 9, 2014) - Darren Aronofsky announced today that he and his production company Protozoa Pictures have signed two separate overall first-look deals. Protozoa inked a film deal with New Regency and a separate television deal with HBO. Coincidentally, both first-look deals are for three years.
Protozoa Pictures has previously collaborated with New Regency on the Darren Aronofsky directed films THE FOUNTAIN and the upcoming NOAH, which is being released by Paramount on March 28, 2014. Under this new deal, Protozoa will develop and produce projects for the company.
Protozoa Pictures' deal with HBO marks their first foray into television. Under the deal, Protozoa will develop material both for Aronofsky to direct and for his company to produce.
"It is a thrill to be re-teaming with my old friends at New Regency. Arnon has been a great supporter since we made THE FOUNTAIN together. It is a golden age for the small screen and moving into that realm with HBO as partners is a dream come true. I am excited to see Protozoa's output explode over the next few years."
Protozoa Pictures is comprised of Aronofsky, Ari Handel (President), Josh Stern (Director of Development), Zara Burdett (Creative Executive), Dylan Golden and Aronofsky's longtime producing partner Scott Franklin.
Protozoa Pictures is represented by CAA and based in New York.
